"My journey cooking started as many people's do, a kid in the kitchen with my Mom. She would grind her own grains to bake fresh bread, concoct amazing casseroles, and every Christmas make crispy Yorkshire Pudding and prime rib. These early childhood experiences sparked my love of cooking for people. As an adult trying to find my path in the professional world, I was lost until I found the kitchen. It was a sanctuary that made outside problems melt away. After culinary school I started my professional cooking career at Encuentro, a vegetable based restaurant in Oakland. Exposure to the amazing produce Northern California has to offer had me brimming with excitement and creativity, eventually earning the position of Sous Chef. In a search to refine my style and experience new perspectives on cooking, I sought out restaurants that interested me. The first was Bay Wolf, an Oakland institution which helped pave the way to a California cuisine along with restaurants like Chez Panisse. Then Acquerello, the now two Michelin-starred San Francisco sweet heart, learning about pasta and scrupulous detail. Finally Lazy Bear, where the best products in the world meet ultra refined technique in an atmosphere where you would swear your at one of the most awesome parties ever."
