BIO:
Simileoluwa “Simi” Adebajo built Eko Kitchen with her love of food from her home country of Nigeria. She opened her debut location in San Francisco’s SoMa district in 2019 and her second location in Los Angeles Arts District in 2021.
By partnering with local vendors and using recipes from her mother's and grandmother’s repertoires, she’s brought a taste of Lagos to California. Simi is dedicated to serving her local communities through initiatives that feed the homeless. She worked closely with SF New Deal and other food relief initiatives to address food scarcity needs during the COVID pandemic.
Simi and Eko Kitchen have been recognized with regional and national press coverage from The San Francisco Chronicle, Bon Appetit, Eater, San Francisco Magazine, Today.com, Thrillist, and The Guardian. Eko Kitchen is San Francisco's first and only hub for Nigerian cooking, with a modern twist.
She offers virtual and in-person cooking classes, corporate and private event catering, private dining experiences, and a line of African retail products.

Influences:
Nigeria is my greatest inspiration. My parents came to the United States from Nigeria in the 90s to start their life here in the hope that there would be be utter opportunities for them and their unborn children. Although I was born here, I grew up in Nigeria and lived there for most of my formative years.
Years later I have managed to make a living off of recipes that I learned from my mother and two grandmothers- and I have brought the boldness, heat and flavor synonymous with Nigeria and her people to the world.
As I traveled and explored the world I learned more recipes and sorted to fuse my understanding of Nigerian cuisines with other global flavors, giving birth to my love for fusion cuisine.

“My boyfriend and I enjoyed our first Nigerian cooking experience together! We got involved in the prepping and cooking process and it was really exciting to see how the ingredients would come together to make our dinner meal. We made chin-chin and turkey pepper soup, and Simileoluwa was kind enough to bring extra dishes for our dinner that would compliment the dishes we cooked. We even got to get to know the other people in our group and learned so much about their history and how they decided to join the class! I would 100% do this experience again and I think everyone should try it at least once :)”. Regine - May 2022
“Oh my goodness, what an absolute treat this was! Booked for my husbands birthday to celebrate with friends and family. Simileoluwa was so engaging, kind, and informative! The class was very interactive yet also allowed for socializing. The food was flawless, we had a three course meal! The best part however was learning of Simileoluwa’s story and brilliance. She is incredibly inspirational. All the other reasons aside, this class is worth it just to meet her and learn from her.” Maryam - April 2022
Moving across the country to San Francisco was isolating. Add a global pandemic to the mix, and the loneliness from having nothing to remind you of your home or culture can be crippling. That's why Eko Kitchen was a godsend. There are no other Nigerian restaurants in SF that I know of, so the comfort and healing the food brought me was the perfect cure. One thing I love about the food here is that it's elevated--giving all the comfort and familiarity of a home-cooked Nigerian meal, with a special "high-end" touch that people from all backgrounds will love. I also love the occasional fusion dishes like jollof spaghetti and chicken suya tacos. I shared the food here with my non-African friends and they were hooked. Eko Kitchen gets my highest personal recommendation. Thank you for holding it down for Nigerians in SF! “Fatima - January 2022
